Track 8 : Jigs
Winnie Hayes', The Rose in the Heather
We have been playing The Rose in the Heather for a long time but it only came to bloom once we teamed it up with Winnie Hayes'.
Winnie Hayes was a concertina player from Tullygarvan, a townland between Ennistymon and Lahinch, a few miles north of Faha where Kitty was born. She was already an elderly woman when Kitty was young and Kitty never actually met her. The tune was salvaged by a flute player who was then a neighbour of Kitty's. He gave it to his brother in law, Micho Russell. Micho kept it all these years for the rest of us.
